Originally from northern California, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to go to school and play basketball at Lipscomb University. After college, I managed a Starbucks before I moved to Virginia to work for Operation Smile. I relocated to California for Operation Smile in August of 2006 and live in sunny Los Angeles. One thing you would NEVER guess about me is that I was my high school’s Homecoming Queen!. If you are a student in California and have questions about Student Programs, including starting or maintaining an Operation Smile Association, please contact me at .

UC Berkeley Public Health: Dr. Lee Riley, Professor of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases

Dr. Riley is a Professor of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of California, Berkeley.  His research interests include:
-Pathogenesis of mycobacterial and enteric pathogens

-Molecular epidemiology of tuberculosis and drug-resistant gram-negative bacterial infections

-Field epidemiology and international health, focused on slum health

Podiatrics: Bright Chen

I am a UC Berkeley '06 graduate in Molecular & Cell Biology, currently a second year medical student at the California School of Podiatric Medicine (CSPM) at Samuel Merritt College in San Francisco/Oakland, CA.  I have participated in foot screenings at senior centers and marathons, and was part of the first aid team at the recent Napa Valley Marathon in March 2008.  As a CSPM second year student, I have had the opportunity to do some clinical training while completing my didactics.  I've rotated at podiatry clinics at Laguna Honda Hospital, Alameda County Medical Center, Kaiser San Francisco, and St. Mary's Medical Center.  Dedicated to community service, I have been recently selected as a 2008-2009 Schweitzer Fellow and am planning homeless outreach programs to place importance of podiatric needs as a public health concern to prevent potentially limb-threatening pathologies.  I am very enthusiastic about my career choice and look forward to complete my studies and continuing on with a three-year surgical residency to further my interests in diabetic wound care, podopediatrics, sports medicine, and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.

Health Medicine Forum: Dr. Len Saputo, Founder and Director

Career Center: Edith Bretado

Hey everyone! My name is Edith Bretado and I am a 4th year student majoring in Development Studies and taking Pre-Med. Courses. I am currently involved in student organizations such as DULCE, and CHE. I am also in BSP (Biology Scholars Program) and play volleyball with the BSP team . . . Go BSP! I have worked in the Financial Aid Office at Cal and Bath & Body Works. I have volunteered at Kaiser Permanente and plan to volunteer in Highland Hospital. My plans for the future are to travel with doctors internationally and deliver affordable health care around the world. I also plan to become an ER surgeon and start free clinics in other countries as well as here in the United States. Hmmm, what else . . . I love to play all kinds of sports, enjoy reading and writing, listening to music, cooking and meeting new people. I grew up in South Central LA and I enjoy going back home to see my family. I am very approachable and friendly so whenever you need help with anything or just want to stop by for a chitchat, come to the Career Center and say “Hello!”

Career Center: Danielle Leslie

My name is Danielle Leslie, and I will be [finally!] graduating this May 2008 with a B.A. in Rhetoric. I've been helping students as a Peer Advisor with the Career Center for 3 years now. My main interests include online marketing, web-based businesses, and entrepreneurship. I got my feet wet this past summer by interning full-time for a dynamic interactive advertising agency in SF called Red Bricks Media. Before 2008 ends, I hope to launch a Web 2.0 business and continue learning about real estate investing. In the mean time, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the only African-American magazine at UC Berkeley: Onyx Express.
